Harry's, Inc.
Feb 2016 — Sep 2018Director of Engineering
New York City Metropolitan AreaI joined Harry’s during a period of rapid growth, initially as Lead Front End Engineer. In this role, I led the team responsible for customer experiences on the website, mentored engineers, built out the frontend architecture, and collaborated with leaders across Product, Design, Marketing, and the executive team to quickly iterate on the needs of the growing brand.
After less than a year, I moved into the Director of Engineering role, taking on responsibility for all Direct to Consumer engineering. This included leading teams focused on A/B testing, pricing, manufacturing and inventory systems, payments, and working closely with data teams to model and forecast the business. I managed 15-20 engineers across two teams focused on different parts of the business.
One of our biggest challenges was launching Harry’s globally, which had previously only operated in the US. This required a complete rewrite of our payment infrastructure and a coordinated rollout of sales and marketing strategy across new markets. We also evolved the platform to be brand-agnostic, learning from the engine we had built for Harry’s and incrementally incorporating those learnings to support future brands. Flamingo, the women’s shaving brand, was the first to launch on this evolved platform, with others following.
Beyond my core responsibilities, I created continuing education programs to promote technical growth and excellence across engineering. I also established an apprenticeship program that enabled technically talented members of the company to transition into engineering roles through a four-month program. This program continued beyond my tenure, creating a lasting pathway for developing engineering talent from within.
