As VP of Engineering at Spruce, I served as the most senior technology leader, responsible for building out the engineering organization and establishing the technical strategy for the business. I joined at a pivotal moment when the company needed to strengthen its engineering foundation while continuing to serve demanding enterprise customers in the real estate closing space. The team managed critical responsibilities including escrow accounts for home purchases and legal and regulatory compliance across numerous states.

I led an infrastructure initiative that transformed the organization’s approach to building and deploying software. We adopted an infrastructure-as-code methodology, creating consistent and reliable deployment architecture while dramatically improving developer experience for building environments. This work, combined with improvements to our API design to better support partner integrations, significantly improved the velocity of our product and engineering organization.

I grew the team to 15+ engineers across backend, frontend, and infrastructure disciplines, building the capacity needed to serve our expanding customer base. We worked closely with strategic partners including Zillow, Better, and other PropTech companies. Our Zillow relationship evolved from a customer partnership into something more strategic, and shortly after my tenure, the work we had done to mature the organization’s technology helped position the company for acquisition.
